The most romantic restaurant in Newcastle is House of Tides on the Quayside, Kenny and Abbie Atkinson's Michelin starred restaurant in a former merchant's house on The Close, open for dinner Thursday to Saturday. For a view, 3Sixty on the 26th floor of Hadrian's Tower has glass on every side; for a classic night out, 21 on Trinity Gardens; and for something relaxed, Kiln's charcoal grilled small plates in the Ouseburn. Each pick below is chosen for the room and the occasion, with opening days and addresses checked in October 2026, so you can book the right night.

House of Tides, The Close

House of Tides is at 28 to 30 The Close (NE1 3RF), on the Quayside. It holds one Michelin star and three AA Rosettes, and the Michelin Guide describes the building well: flagged floors, cast iron pillars and exposed brick downstairs, then sloping floors, uneven ceilings and carved beams upstairs. The cooking is modern, detailed and built on very good produce. It is open for dinner on Thursday and Friday from 6pm to 9pm and Saturday from 5.30pm to 9.30pm, with lunch on Friday and Saturday from noon to 2pm. It is closed Monday to Wednesday, and Sunday is bar only. Book well ahead through its website; for an anniversary, this is the one.

3Sixty, Hadrian's Tower

3Sixty is on the 26th floor of Hadrian's Tower at 27 Rutherford Street (NE1 5BJ), reached by its own lift that opens straight into the dining room. Glass runs floor to ceiling all the way round, with the bridges, the river and the rooftops below. The à la carte, seasonal plates and a grill, is served from 5pm every evening, and last food orders are at 8.45pm, so book an early table and watch the city light up. It stays open until midnight on Friday and Saturday if you want a drink after.

21, Trinity Gardens

21 on Trinity Gardens, Quayside (NE1 2HH) is a proper grown up brasserie: polished floorboards, leather banquettes, crisp cloths and skilful, generous cooking. For a celebration, the Royal Seafood Tower is the thing to share. There is also a private dining room, a restaurant within the restaurant, if you are planning a proposal or a family party. 21 serves lunch and dinner Tuesday to Friday, all day on Saturday from noon, and lunch only on Sunday; last seating for dinner is 9pm.

Aveika, Sandhill

Aveika at 10 to 15 Sandhill on the Quayside (NE1 3AF) is a modern Asian restaurant and bar that calls its food authentic, yet not traditional. It lists a Best Asian Restaurant award from the LUXlife Hospitality Awards 2026. It is a good choice for a dressed up night that ends with cocktails. It opens 3pm to 10pm on Wednesday and Thursday, from noon until late on Friday and Saturday, and noon to 8pm on Sunday. It is closed on Monday and Tuesday.

Kiln, Ouseburn

For a date that feels relaxed rather than formal, Kiln at 4 Hume Street, Byker (NE6 1LN) serves grill and mezze small plates from 4pm to 9.30pm every evening. Share the whole charcoal roasted sea bass with green zhoug (£23), the Bubalas grilled halloumi with black sesame honey (£13) and a few mezze, such as the tirokafteri whipped feta (£9.50). It is open every day, which makes it an easy answer on a Monday or Tuesday when the Quayside rooms are shut.

The Broad Chare, Quayside

If your idea of a date is a good pub, The Broad Chare at 25 Broad Chare (NE1 3DQ) is a traditional ale house with well kept beer, honest food with a modern touch, and a dining room serving lunch and dinner Monday to Saturday. It is a short walk from House of Tides, so it also works for a drink before or after.

Sky High Cinema Club at ABOVE

For something different, ABOVE, the rooftop on top of the Vermont Hotel on the Quayside, launched a Sky High Cinema Club in February 2026. Arrival is from 6pm with a complimentary cocktail or mocktail, then a two course menu and a film at 8pm, all for £45 per person. Spaces are limited, so check the Vermont for upcoming dates and book early.

Good to know

Thursday to Saturday is when most of these rooms are at their best, and when House of Tides and Aveika are both open. Early in the week, Kiln and 3Sixty are the safest bets. For Valentine's and Christmas, book House of Tides and 21 as early as you can. The Quayside picks are an easy walk downhill from Monument Metro.
