Newcastle Nightlife: Clubs, Late Bars and Live Music That Are Open Now
Clubs, late bars and gig venues in Newcastle with live 2026 programmes, from World Headquarters to The Cluny, and what kind of night each one is.
Newcastle nightlife splits three ways: proper clubs such as World Headquarters on Carliol Square, Tup Tup Palace on St Nicholas Street and NX on Westgate Road; live music rooms like The Cluny in the Ouseburn and Boiler Shop on South Street; and late bars around the Bigg Market that serve until 3am. Every venue below has a live 2026 programme or published hours on its own website, checked in October 2026, with addresses and the kind of night to expect. Plenty of older lists still recommend clubs that closed years ago; none of those are here.
World Headquarters, Carliol Square
World Headquarters is at Carliol Square, East Pilgrim Street (NE1 6UF), a club spread over two floors. Nights run across an upstairs and a downstairs room, sometimes both. The listings on its website run right through to December: Blush, a night of music for the alternative crowd, on 23 October; Ross From Friends on 7 November; Dusky's Signals tour on 27 November; and HVY with MXGN live on 18 December. There is also a free Open Decks and Mix Social on 10 November if you have records of your own. Expect techno, hard groove, acid and alternative nights rather than chart music.
Tup Tup Palace, St Nicholas Street
Tup Tup Palace at 7 St Nicholas Street (NE1 1RE) is the opposite end of the scale: a boutique club where groups book booths on the dancefloor, in the VIP area or upstairs in Loja, a rooftop private bar with its own smoking area. The Don Julio Lounge is its newer private VIP space. It runs five weekly nights: Messy on Tuesday, Playground on Wednesday, Jungle on Thursday, Lovedough on Friday and Smile on Saturday. It is the place for a birthday table, not a quiet drink, and booth floorplans are on its website.
NX Newcastle, Westgate Road
NX Newcastle on Westgate Road (NE1 1SW) does both touring bands and big club nights. The autumn club calendar includes Folamour on Friday 23 October, Enzo Siragusa on Halloween (already sold out), AZYR b2b Partiboi69 on 7 November, Interplanetary Criminal on 21 November and Schak on 18 December. On the live side there is Yard Act on 10 November, Embrace on 12 November and Rudimental on 12 December. Book early: several dates have already sold out.
The Cluny, Ouseburn
The Cluny at 36 Lime Street (NE1 2PQ) is the Ouseburn's best known live music venue, with two rooms, The Cluny and the smaller Cluny 2. The listings run almost every night: Death Valley Girls on 26 October, a Nick Drake tribute on 1 November, An Dannsa Dub on 14 November and Dr Feelgood on 17 December. It is a good base for a night in the valley, with other pubs a few minutes' walk along the Ouseburn.
Boiler Shop, South Street
Boiler Shop at 20 South Street (NE1 3PE), a short walk from Central Station, is a big industrial room used for gigs and events. Its autumn run is almost entirely sold out: Hayseed Dixie, The Wedding Present, The Skids with Theatre of Hate, Teenage Fanclub on 10 November and The Orb with Ozric Tentacles on 12 November, plus two Bongo's Bingo Halloween specials on 30 and 31 October. If you want a ticket here, watch for on-sale dates rather than turning up.
Louie's Liquor Store, Bigg Market
For a late bar rather than a club, Louie's Liquor Store at 11 Bigg Market (NE1 1UN) is Southern in style, with more than 50 American whiskeys and bourbons on the back bar. It opens 4pm to 3am Monday to Thursday and noon to 3am Friday to Sunday, with DJs and entertainment at weekends, and it runs bourbon and whiskey classes. Its food menu is listed as coming soon, so eat first.
Pilgrim, city centre
Pilgrim is the old Hoochie Coochie, reopened earlier this year after a full makeover. It is a music bar first, with a programme of jazz, soul, funk, house and disco artists, and it suits a night when you want a band and a dance in the same room.
Scotswood ShowBar, Scotswood Road
The newest addition is Scotswood ShowBar on Scotswood Road, which opened in October 2026 as an inclusive space for drag, musical theatre, cabaret and comedy. It opens Thursday to Monday and it is a cashless venue, so bring a card.
Good to know
The late licences cluster around the Bigg Market and Cloth Market, and most clubs do not get busy until after 11pm. Monument Metro is the closest stop for the Bigg Market, Carliol Square and St Nicholas Street; Central Station is closest for NX and Boiler Shop; the Ouseburn is a walk east along the Quayside, or a short taxi. Big names at NX, World Headquarters and Boiler Shop sell out weeks ahead, so buy tickets through each venue's own site. Before a club, start with our bars and the cocktail bars guide, and see What's On for one-off nights. Our full list of clubs is on the nightlife page.
